The Pharmacist and our trained assistants are available for advice on all medicines and minor ailments, in private if required. We can also give you advice on how to live a healthy life, for example, advice on how to stop smoking, or healthy diets. We can direct you to other sources of advice and assistance if we cannot help you ourselves.

Appliance Use Reviews
As a user of a continence or stoma appliance you are entitled to a FREE Appliance Use Review (AUR) every year. This can either be done at the Pharmacy or we can arrange for a nurse to visit you at home. How will the AUR benefit you? The aim of the AUR is to: Improve your knowledge and use of the stoma or continence appliance. For example the appliance could be a urinary catheter, a urine drainage bag or a stoma pouch. Give you the opportunity to discuss how to use the appliance Highlight any problems with the appliance Give you the opportunity to discuss alternative ways of managing your bladder or bowel problem Ensure you are storing the appliance correctly Give you advice on the safe and correct disposal of the appliances that are used or no longer required Make sure that you are not overstocked with appliances

We dispense all Private and NHS prescriptions in the UK. Advice is available on how to get the most benefit from your medicines. We keep a comprehensive stock of medicines and use a fast and an efficient wholesaler service to enable us to complete all prescriptions promptly.

We can advise on medical requirements for travellers, including anti-malaria treatments, avoiding sunburn and tummy upsets.

Medicines Sales
We keep a wide range of over the counter medicines and also vitamins and mineral supplements.

Patient Medication Records
Our computer allows us to keep records of all your prescriptions dispensed by us. This helps us check for possible problems, such as reactions between medicines and will help us deal with any queries you may have. We comply with the Data Protection Act and the NHS code of practice on confidentiality.

At Hughenden Valley we developed the now widely used ‘Pharmacist Opinion: In Need of Treatment’ service. If, after seeking advice from the Pharmacist, you need to see a doctor urgently, you will be given a form to take to your GP’s reception where you will be ‘Fast Tracked’ to see a GP for your urgent medical need.

Repeat Dispensing
We can dispense NHS repeat dispensing prescriptions issued by your doctor. Ask us for more information about this service.

Prescriptions (Hughenden Valley Surgeries)
For repeat prescriptions tear off the right hand slip from your last ordered prescription and mark which medication you require. At Hughenden Valley Surgery either put it in the white post box outside the pharmacy entrance, post it to us or use the online service at www.OurPractice.co.uk. If you wish to have your prescription posted back to you please supply a stamped addressed envelope. Repeat prescriptions are processed at 8am and are normally ready for collection two working days from that time. At exceptionally busy times dispensed medication may take up to three working days from receipt of the request. Please give as much notice as possible to ensure that you do not run out of medication and to ensure we have the medication in stock if you are a dispensing patient. Please remember that the doctor or nurse will need to see you at regular intervals to review your condition. Leave yourself enough medication in case you need an appointment.

Medicine Supply
If you need one of your regular medicines in an emergency when you are unable to contact your doctor, we may be able to help. We must stress that this can only be done in genuine emergencies and it will incur a charge.
